Alright, I've compiled some videos of Airi's singing from Aa! to Buono! We will be watching the growth of Amy's favorite singer, so fasten your seatbelts and please forgive me for embedding so many videos and lagging the shit out of your computer.
Also, everything here is chronological, and I'm just using the setlists on ThePPN, so if you find an Airi video that I've left out, just leave a comment and I'll add it onto the post if it's necessary. Moving on...
EDIT: Julia just reminded me that I forgot to show Airi's audition for Hello! Project Kids! This was in 2002, so Airi was around 8 years old! She is obviously the best performer, not only because she's Airi, but because she sings a BoA song and also sort of dances! Her part is around 0:54.
Anyways, back to the original post...
We're starting with 2003! Let's take a look at Airi when she was a youngin' in Aa!
Yay, I love Airi's vocals in this single! At nine years old, Airi can sing better than me! :( I love her high notes at the end. Her voice is really clear, and this is the single that made everyone think, "Wow, that girl can sing."
Alrighty, fast forward to 2006! Two days after Airi's 12th birthday, she is featured on Hello Pro Hour! She sings Fujimoto Miki's Boogie Train '03.
I love this performance, but I don't think it's her best. She has a very loud, high voice, but it's cute. I love to hear her singing the English parts, such as "Sexy Boy". I also think she's getting more used to performing, and not just singing. She moves more and doesn't just stand there. She also, again, hits the high notes well and leaves me impressed!
We're still in 2006, now, but it's December and at the first ºC-ute concert, Airi, Chisato and Mai do a cover of First Kiss, which is quite cool, because we can see Airi sing the same song three years later.
So, her voice is a little different. I mean, this is part 5 of the concert, so I assume she's tired. She still manages those high notes, but her voice has gotten a little less high pitched. I think she's putting more emotion into her singing now which is great. This video was from Cutie Circuit 2006 Final in Yomiuri Land East Live, if anyone wants to check out the rest of the concert.
Moving on, we are now in 2007. Airi's birthday hasn't come yet, so she'still 12, but she'll be 13 in two months if ThePPN has the proper dates for the concerts and her birthday. In the next concert, Airi sings a cover of Goto Maki's Sayonara no LOVE SONG.
Some commenters have said that Airi has started singing with a more nasal voice, but I'm not a professional singer like those YouTube commenters, so I have no idea what they're talking about. I think her voice is sweet and, again, she puts more emotion into the song. I love that her voice stays pretty normal even when she's probably tired from performing other songs. We can't say that for all of the H!P Kids, but I'm not going to be naming names. Oh wait, yes I am. Sugaya Risako, take a leaf out of Airi's book.
Exactly 3 months later! Airi sings her solo song from ºC-ute's second album, Tsuugaku Vector.
First off, I love that outfits. But that doesn't really have anything to do with her singing. But really, that outfits is so cute.
Anyways, Airi looks a lot more cheerful for this song. I think it has to do with the fact that this isn't a sad song like Sayonara no LOVE SONG or First Kiss, but Airi really does look happy here. Again, I have to say this. Koharu, stop smiling in songs that aren't happy. Airi doesn't do it, so you shouldn't either.
Airi's voice has gotten a bit deeper, and this may be because it's a concert. But, her voice has definitely lost that high pitched quality from Boogie Train '03, which isn't so bad. She still does well in concerts despite this performance being near the end of the concert.
On October 17th, 2007, Tokaikko Junjou, C-ute's 3rd major single and 7th overall was released. Airi had a huge amount of lines in this single, so even though she's not singing solo, I think it's a good idea to add Tokaikko Junjou to this post.
Here, 13 year old Airi's voice sounds a bit deeper and more mature, which is quite different than her Boogie Train '03 voice. She also looks "sexy", which is quite different than Ookina Ai de Motenashite or Meguru Koi no Kisetsu. Moving on...
Airi's been added to a new unit, and their debut single has been released! Buono!'s Honto no Jibun features Airi wearing a different style of clothing, but with basically the same voice, so I'm not gonna bother commentating on it.
Moving on, Airi's now got a duet in ºC-ute's November 2007 tour,
ºC-ute Cutie Circuit 2007 ~MAGICAL CUTIE TOUR~. She and Maimi perform ENDLESS LOVE ~I Love You More~. I think Airi kind of outshines Maimi here, but, I'm obviously biased since this IS an Airi worship blog. This time, I'm not really crazy over Airi's voice. It seems a little deep, so I wonder if she's tired. However, in the album recording of ENDLESS LOVE, her voice is still a bit deep. So I guess I'm not the hugest fan of Airi in this song, but she's still great!
The first C-ute single of 2008, LALALA Shiawase no Uta features less Airi (still 13 years old) than Tokaikko Junjou, but I think this single is worth mentioning because her voice is quite different.
Her voice is noticeably more "cute" and sugary in this single. While some people criticize her for making her voice too cutesy, I commend her for it. Singles like Tokaikko Junjou and LALALA have different styles, obviously. Her vocals in these songs show that she can adapt to different songs and change her voice when needed. I think she sounded great in these singles, and we can call her a chameleon for her huge vocal range!
Ah, crap. I forgot to mention Buono!'s Renai Rider. Uh, Renai Rider was released a bit before LALALA, but I'm too lazy to add it up there. Uh, here's the video, and again, her voice is still the same, so I'm not really adding comments on this one.
Now, the main recent video I've wanted to share is of ºC-ute's fifth major single, Namida no Iro. Airi does a great job throughout the whole song, but she really wowed me with her last line of the song. It is really great, and she nails it in this live performance.
There's a bit of talking at the beginning, so just wait a few moments, or skip through it. Airi's voice is a bit tired in this one, so I was wondering how she'd manage the last line that I adored. She did not disappoint me and sang that line almost as well as the recording!
The most recent release Airi has done so far is Buono!'s Kiss! Kiss! Kiss!. Here is Airi, 14 years old, and still singing wonderfully.
Now, comparing Airi from Aa! to Airi from Buono!, we see that she's matured quite a lot these past few years. I hope her new singles in ºC-ute and Buono! are just as great as all of the previous releases. Maybe in a few years, Airi will become a soloist, and that day will be a great day for this blog!
That video of Maimi and Airi singing ENDLESS LOVE ~I Love You More~ you posted... it isn't them singing! I'm... read more
